EXPLORING SKILLS IN THE DIGITAL WORLD

I don’t know if this has happened to you, but I’ve experienced it. This is about a scenario where your parents call you and ask you to help them sort out or fix some gadgets. Or that you should explain what some stuff like app settings and equipment is all about and how to go about it.
Do you know that day by day, technology keeps on advancing? There are some things your siblings know and are conversant with which you have no idea about or have even heard about. This is what the new age is all about, evolution, recreation. It has brought forth so many digital skills to existence.

A few of these are; content writing, graphic designing, email marketing, programming, UX design and so on. Gone are those days when women sit at home without having a source to earn a living. The days where men sit idle because of unemployment. Gone are the days where talents are only displayed occasionally and where skills are being honed once in a while.

There is now much more advancement, even vocational skills are now much more developed and advanced. These digital skills don’t segregate between genders. It could be learnt and mastered by anyone regardless of gender. But, what I noticed is that female gender are not really interested in acquiring digital skills Though recently, there have been changes and there has been various news of organisation or group of people or individuals including females who have been successful in creating apps, programs or solving some problems using digital skills. But, regardless of this, the female gender needs to come into the knowledge of what it’s all about and to acquire digital skills.

What advantages do I get from these skills?

1. Independence: Helps in adding a new stream of income. Everyone is considering opening up several streams of income i.e having more than one source of money coming in. Making use of several digital skills can help in doing this. You become self-employed, even if you are employed somewhere and you are working for someone, these skills can serve as another means of earning income
2. Availability of time: whether you are a full housewife or you are a working-class individual, it gives you time to get involved in other things unless under some circumstances and there is time to work on improving yourself in other aspects of life.
3. Gives a professional edge: Imagine having a boss that needs helps in a particular graphic design and that’s a skill you’ve added over time. You’d provide that help with ease and have the edge over your colleagues. Developing digital skills in this technological age is important as technology keeps advancing. Learning a new digital or perfecting the one you have would help level the playing field as everyone advances or even give you an upper hand in some cases. you become more exposed, enlightened and informed to various situations and events all around you.
4. Self-development: apart from the income you obtain from it, you also become more developed as a person be it in (writing skills, in designing, ability to think fast, analysing of situations, being able to work efficiently under pressure e.t c)

Determination

The first factor is “you” what do I mean by this, whatever a man determines to do, will definitely be done by him. Are you afraid of venturing into it? Then, you have to get rid of that fear, make the decision and take the first step

Research and Acquire Resources

Things have been made easy for us, surf and make research on various digital skills and choose the one you know you are interested in and will be committed to, or if there are any skills you like. Then, do go for it.

Get The Right Tools

Working in the digital world requires the right tools. There are different grades of technology and each grade matches or works best with a certain line of work in the digital world. The best thing would be to find what fits best into the digital field you’re working in.

Get Mentors

What do I mean by this, there are some skills which you can’t learn by yourself, look for those who have mastered it and learn or get trained by them. Of course, this requires having to pay money sometimes but it’s a sacrifice which is worth the price, go to YouTube surf for videos related to the skills and learn

Practice

“Practice makes perfect” Work on what you’ve learnt and what you wish to learn. Gradually go over them and with practice, it will be a part of you. Be consistent. This is very important, because at some time you may want to get weary or lose interest in it, but if you are determined and you have a goal you want to achieve with it, then you will surely be motivated, and do avoid procrastination. When you are being given a task or an assignment, always do it as it will help you in honing the skill.

So, be determined, be consistent and be ready to learn and to become better, and you will definitely explore the digital world but take note, this can only be done when you are consistent with it for we become better daily, the more we learn and put into practice, The more we master a skill and become more improved in it!
