We have another episode of HD Startup Interview. Today, ON THE BLOG, I’d be having Ibitoye Mayowa. He is a cordwainer and he runs Top Notch Shoes World. In case you don’t know, a cordwainer is a shoemaker who makes new shoes from new leather. Dive into this interview and see how Mayowa got inspired by God on how to move forward with his idea.
Tell our readers about you and your business?
My name is Ibitoye Mayowa. I’m a Cordwainer, I build shoes for a living. I enjoy doing this because it is fun and allows me to be creative and think outside the box. I started doing this job immediately after my NYSC program in 2020, and I have been blessed by God. The name of my brand is Top^Notch Shoes World.
What is the story behind the creation of Top Notch Shoes World? How long has the business been running?
The name Top-Notch is an English term used by anyone but I remember when I was doing my NYSC program, I prayed one night that God should give me the right name I will use for my brand. When I slept that night, I spoke out that name from my dream to reality. I was contemplating later that day, that Top-Notch is just an English term but as a believer, I stuck to what I was given because I asked and God gave me the best name.
Did I mention that I do graphic designs too? When I was designing my logo that day I was inspired to put a caret “^” between the words ‘Top’ and ‘Notch’ and that was how my brand name came into life with a unique logo.
Where do you see Top Notch Shoes World in the next 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, 5 years from now?
I see Top^Notch Shoes World thriving because the past 7 months have been great. 6 months to 5 years is definitely enough time to make things great and on top of the world by God’s grace.
Since you conceptualized this idea, what has been your biggest lesson?
The more I know, the more I become better and stronger. Every experience is a lesson, I don’t take any of them for granted.

What do you need to take your business to the next level? And why should investors buy into your business?
Having the right tools available to take my business to the next level. Investors should buy into my business because I am creative with my thinking when it comes to great designs. I want to be the first in Nigeria to sell my product to the world knowing it’s from Nigeria.
What is your advice for those willing to tow this line?
Love what you do and don’t do what you don’t like. Shoe building involves time and creativity and when you feel bored doing it you can’t thrive in it.
