Are there wrong questions on rape? A lot has been said and is still being said on the topic of rape. It has become so common an issue that is no longer sensitive. It looks more like a joke, with accusations and denials, everybody now seeks gain by pitting the society against each other. We, the members of the society, are also so quick to pick sides, judge and throw stones.

WRONG QUESTIONS ON RAPE

ARE THERE WRONG QUESTIONS ON RAPE?

I have a different questions thrown at the victim like what was she wearing? How was she walking? What was she doing there? In this case of Busola Dakolo, why not ask why she was putting on a nightie? Oh, yes, someone already did. Or ask why was in her Father’s house by 7a.m. in the morning? Why not ask why she woke up?

I noticed we have graduated from those set of questions as a society. Now, it is, isn’t she trying to gain something? Or is someone using her to pull him down?

Those set of questions don’t even bother me because even if the victim is truly raped, another party might play on the emotional weakness to exploit both the victim and the perpetrator.

ARE THERE WRONG QUESTIONS ON RAPE?

The part that bothers me the most are questions like why is she just opening up or talking about it? Those are the set of people who need a lot of checks done.

Let us even forget if the victim was threatened, let’s think of the shock and fear and emotional & psychological breakdown. Rape victims tend to go through withdrawal, denials, dissociating themselves from the incidence. I mean, someone you call your uncle, whom your parents respect, the acclaimed son of the society, how easy can it be to tell the world or even a person about it. Funny enough, most of this people only speak up when they have the right support system, a support system they can rely upon…

We are just too quick to judge; we never take time to see things from different angles. the lady down the street isn’t married, the other lady that lives across the street is a runs girl, that aunty in your church doesn’t smile and her husband is frustrated, he is always drinking taking women around because he is sexually frustrated as his wife gives him no pleasure, the guy that just moved in to your area is gay and your best friend is a womanizer, that woman that sells pepper down your street her daughter no longer comes out to play and your classmate is a snub.

Victims deal with rape in thousands of ways. some don’t get married, some have this uncontrollable/insatiable urge for sex, others don’t even enjoy sex, some become withdrawn or shy, some sleep around, others with anxiety issues and the list goes on and on and on.

This people are around us but we don’t know. Because they are silent. Silent because of how you’d crucify them and blame them. Yet, the rapist grows stronger every day.

Many people still don’t believe a man can also be raped. Why? He is too strong for that? He would lose his masculinity over that?

ARE THERE WRONG QUESTIONS ON RAPE?

We raise these reasons and question, challenge victims because if we let some of these things get power a lot of men (and/or women) would also be guilty of rape. You didn’t mean to, we know. But she said NO. You still touched her and fondled her, tried to get her turned on, you’d have continued but her eyes were pleading.

To the touch not my anointed crew, we also have anointing. Let’s stop protecting these Men of God. Only the Lord knows those who are his. Don’t disrespect their calling o but then, let them stop hiding under that cloak.

In every rumor there is an iota of truth. Ever wondered why everyone who accused your M.O.G of rape is in turn tagged as a runs girl…?

I’d love to hear what you think, please, leave a comment.

Till another day…
